Strategies for Persistent Challenges in Scientific Societies: LED-BIO Town Hall Series

October 4 @ 10:00 am - 12:15 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until October 6, 2023

The LED-BIO project is part of the NSF Leading Culture Change through Professional Societies of Biology (BIO-LEAPS) program. We are working to identify evidence-based strategies to address three persistent challenges that scientific societies face in their efforts to promote inclusion within their communities of practice. On each day of our three-day event, we will hold a Virtual Town Hall discussion focused on one of these challenges:

Challenge 1: Wednesday, October 4, 10 am – 12:15 pm (Eastern)
Lack of data needed to fully understand how the demographics of scientific society membership are impacted by their efforts to create an inclusive community of practice
Challenge 2: Thursday, October 5, 10 am – 12:15 pm (Eastern)
Lack of integration of scientists in transitional stages of their careers into disciplinary communities of practice
Challenge 3: Friday, October 6, 10 am – 12:15 pm (Eastern)
Lack of inclusivity among highly visible thought leaders within the community of practice, including speakers in scientific programs

Our overall goal is to develop a set of community standards for data collection and training activities to empower scientific societies to make positive change with respect to each challenge.
