What is a digital badge?

A digital micro-credential representing an accomplishment or skill development that can be displayed, accessed, and verified online (see example to the right). These badges can be used to support your personal brand by incorporating them into LinkedIn profiles, personal websites, resumes, and other media as a visual display of your professional development. Badges are issued through Credly.

CURRENT BADGES OFFERED:

Communication Skills for Non-Expert Audiences (Foundational)

Badge earner can apply strategies to translate complex information for audiences outside of their own discipline. Badge earner has demonstrated improved effective communication skills through a pre- and post- recording explaining their research/scholarship. 8 hour training.

Effective Mentoring (Foundational)

As a result of this training, participants will be able to demonstrate effective mentoring competencies and skills on the following topics: Maintaining Effective Communication, Aligning Expectations, Assessing Understanding, Addressing Equity and Inclusion, Fostering Independence, Cultivating Ethical Behavior, Articulating a Mentoring Philosophy. 8 hour training.

Entrepreneurial Mindset (Foundational)

The badge earner can implement customer interviews, demonstrated an ability to work with a team to create a prototype and has presented a process pitch. 3 day workshop series.

Associate Level of Accomplishment – CIRTL at UNC Chapel Hill (Foundational)

The badge earner can describe the values of evidence-based teaching, diversity in learning and engage in learning communities.

Practitioner Level of Accomplishment – CIRTL at UNC Chapel Hill (Intermediate)

Develop and execute a Teaching-as-Research plan for a limited teaching and learning project. Implement one or more evidence-based teaching strategies for students in a learning experience.

Scholar Level of Accomplishment – CIRTL at UNC Chapel Hill (Advanced)

The badge earner has disseminated scholarly work on teaching and learning via peer reviewed process.
