The Sounds of Diversity: Addressing Regional Dialects Through Inclusive Teaching

October 26, 2016 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

In this workshop we will discuss issues surrounding linguistic diversity in the classroom, particularly the challenges and opportunities it presents for teaching.  We will examine the notion of linguistic “standards” as applied to written and spoken language, and consider tools that promote inclusive teaching in the context of diverse dialects, accents, writing and speaking styles.  All graduate students are invited to attend this interactive workshop.
Facilitators: Katya Pertsova (Dept of Linguistics) and Becky Butler (The Writing Center)
Sponsor: Center for Faculty Excellence
