The Responsive Public Intellectual

This panel session will cover important media training skills including: How to work with journalists; How to offer compelling quotes and observations for media stories; How to work with university communications teams and staff; When to say “no” and turn down interviews or other public opportunities; How to deal with trolls and critics. By the end of the session, students should be able to identify important strategies and support for dealing with media inquiries (including turning down requests) and responding to potential backlash in instances where media coverage or social media unleashes negative reactions.
