Survive and Thrive! A “New” TA Institute
August 24, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Survive and Thrive! As a graduate student, being assigned a Teaching Assistant role for the first time–or with an expanded set of TA responsibilities–can feel daunting.
This 4-hour institute provides graduate students with functional skills central to their success in their TA roles. Sessions and workshops during this institute are designed to increase TAs’ confidence around interacting with students, anticipating challenges and planning potential solutions, and effectively supporting students in their TA roles.
Sessions include:
- Building rapport with students and cultivating student engagement
- Ask Me Anything (AMA) breakout discussions with seasoned TAs
- Navigating potential challenges through case scenario discussions
A link to access the online workshop along with directions for connecting will be provided to registrants prior to August 12th. All participants are strongly encouraged to use a computer with a microphone and video camera as the workshop sessions will be interactive using the Zoom platform.
Please only register if you are able to attend the entire event from 9am-1pm. Lunch provided.
This event is a partnership between The Graduate School, The Center for Faculty Excellence, and CIRTL at UNC Chapel Hill.
