Strategies to Support Students in Crisis – For TAs and RAs

Do you teach or supervise undergraduate students? How confident are you in your ability to assist a student in distress? What resources would you refer a student to if they were dealing with issues that effected their ability to come to class, turn in assignments, or work in the lab? The Office of the Dean of Students is offering a brief workshop to help you develop the skills necessary to navigate these situations in your current role as a TA or RA at Carolina. We will discuss how to recognize a student who may be in distress, review campus resources and support services, talk through case studies, and practice some basic Motivational Interviewing skills to equip you for these conversations.
