Grad Student Training – Supporting First-Gen College Students

April 18, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

The Becoming a Carolina Firsts Advocate training, hosted by Undergraduate Retention and the Diversity and Student Success Program in the Graduate Student Center is a great opportunity for graduate students to learn more about how to provide support to first-generation college students (FGCS). Because so many graduate students are directly in contact with undergraduates via teaching and mentoring, it is imperative for graduate students to learn about the needs and strengths of this student population.  Through an interactive discussion, participants will explore the experiences of FGCS in the university environment.  This session will focus on understanding the needs of FGCS as well how participants can better support these students on their path to graduation. Questions? Please contact Carmen Huerta-Bapat: chuerta@email.unc.edu
